Collapsing elliptical cloud

Numerical simulation performed with Gadget2.

Description of the simulation:

Kuznetsova, Hartmann, and Ballesteros-Paredes (2015) investigate the morphological and kinematic signatures of star cluster formation through cold (subvirial) gravitational collapse using smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations. Starting from an initially turbulent and ellipsoidal gas distribution, the authors underline the complexities of interpreting current observations of young star clusters without considering their dynamic evolutionary history.
